- Those who want a strong opposition should work for strengthening the UPA, said Shiv Sena
- Sena also attacked political strategist Prashant Kishor
- Opposition needs the UPA, it said
New Delhi: Days after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee created a stir by saying that “there is no UPA now”, the Shiv Sena has said that establishing a parallel UPA front is tantamount to strengthening BJP’s hand.
Shiv Sena in its mouthpiece Saamana said that Narendra Modi’s BJP does not need the NDA today but the opposition needs the UPA.
It further said that those who want a strong opposition and don’t want to see the BJP in Delhi should take the initiative to work for strengthening the UPA.
‘Don’t gossip behind the scenes as it leads to confusion and suspicion’
In a subtle swipe at the Trinamool Congress chief, Sena said, “Don’t gossip behind the scenes as it leads to confusion and suspicion.”
Sena also took a dig at the ‘G-23’ dissidents and targeted Ghulam Nabi Azad for saying that Congress will not get 300 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
“Azad and others have formed ‘G-23’ and almost everyone in that group enjoyed power from the Congress. So what did the glorious board do to improve the present condition of the grand old party,” the editorial read.
‘Future will be decided by the divine authority of the UPA leadership’
Taking a dig at political strategist Prashant Kishor for targeting Rahul Gandhi, saying no individual has the “divine right” to leadership; Sena said that the future will be decided by the “divine authority of the UPA leadership”.
Kishor, who is currently working for Mamata Banerjee’s TMC, has been attacking Congress and Gandhis for quite some time.
After winning West Bengal, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee is trying to expand her footprint beyond Bengal claiming to unite and lead all opposition parties. She recently met a number of opposition leaders including NCP chief Sharad Pawar in Mumbai to forge a formidable alliance without the Congress.
Mamata is of opinion that all like-minded forces must unite together at the national level and set up a collective leadership to tackle the BJP.
